TODAY MORE THAN EVER BEFORE THERE IS A DEFINITE BLURRING OF THE LINES BETWEEN CORPORATE IT AND CONSUMER TECHNOLOGY. IT IS ALLOWING EMPLOYEES TO DRIVE INNOVATION AROUND THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY. Industry analysts are saying consumerization will be the most significant trend affecting IT in the next 10 years. There is a growing practice of introducing new technologies into consumer markets prior to industrial markets. This is spurred by the proliferation of high-end consumer technology such as PDAs, MP3 players, and Smartphones – all of which are dual use devices with applications for both consumers and businesses.
End user devices are not the only technology segment experiencing this phenomenon. As consumer devices have grown in popularity and capability, so have the infrastructures supporting them. These infrastructures and their supporting services are of principal interest to business IT management due to their potential to compete or conflict with existing corporate systems. It is not that one will replace the other; but, that a company needs a process to choose between internally managed infrastructure and increasingly powerful mass-market alternatives.
Consumer IT is impacting every organization. Attempting to deny this influence is foolhardy. So, what are the savvy choices to be made about where and when to enable and support consumer IT deployment? How can you take advantage of this trend and transform your rigid, legacy-ridden infrastructures and systems into agile, efficient, service-driven delivery mechanisms? How can you adopt a pragmatic approach to managing the risk of consumer IT while embracing the benefits?
At CSC’s Power to the People Executive Exchange, we will address these questions and many more. We’ll discuss what companies are doing to effectively adopt consumer-based IT functionality. Join us so you too can learn how to take better advantage of consumer-based innovation. We look forward to sharing our insights and hearing your perspectives on this exciting topic.
